Inc 96 Saturday 19 September

A man walking home from a night out in Nuneaton was assaulted and had cash and cigarettes stolen from him in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 42 year old man was at the junction of Bucks Hill and Queen Elizabeth Road shortly before 2.30am when a taxi drew up and three or four males alighted. They asked the man for a cigarette.

As he went to get his cigarettes out the strangers attacked him, pushing him to the floor and punching and kicking him as he lay on the ground. They stole his cigarettes and £50 in cash before running off along Queen Elizabeth Road.

The man, who sustained cuts and bruising and swelling to his face, including a swollen eye, managed to get home, but was then taken to the George Eliot Hospital for treatment to his injuries.

Police would particularly like to speak to the taxi driver who dropped a group of males off near the Bucks hill on Queen Elizabeth Road between 2am - 2.30am on Saturday. They would also like to hear from anyone walking in the area who saw anything suspicious.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Kimberley Stafford at Nuneaton Police Station on 02476 641111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where the information can be given anonymously.
