Aston Cantlow Burning Car, Did You See Or Hear Anything ?

Inc 51 Wednesday 25 January

Police investigating the discovery of a body in a burning car at Aston Cantlow, near Alcester, are continuing to appeal for help from the public to establish what time the car was driven into the field.

Police are still treating the death as unexplained and a Home Office Pathologist is conducting a Post Mortem this morning, to determine how the person in the car died.

The fire service were called to the burning car, which was in a field off Brearley Road, Aston Cantlow at shortly after 7am on Wednesday 25 January. They contacted the police when they realised a body was inside the car.

The car, a dark red coloured Peugeot 306, was located some 150 yards from the road and had been driven into the field before catching fire. The vehicle, which had not been reported stolen, was totally destroyed by the fire.

Police investigating the death want to establish at what time the car was driven onto the field and ask anyone who may have seen of heard anything unusual in the area between approximately 1am on Wednesday 25 January and just after 7am.

Detective Inspector Liam Barry, from the investigation team, said, “We are appealing for anyone who saw or who heard anything unusual in the Aston Cantlow area between about 1am and 7am on Wednesday morning which was when the car was reported on fire. It may be that someone heard a car revving up, or heard music, or saw the car being driven on to the field. They may not have thought anything of it at the time, but we would like to hear from them.”

Police now believe they know the identity of the person in the car although formal identification is likely to take some time, due to the intense heat within the car.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the major Investigation Room at Leamington Police Station on 01926 415000 x 4280 or x 4186, or they can use the non emergency number 101. They can also report information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
