Body Of Man Recovered From The Oxford Canal At Newbold, Near Rugby

At 10.10am this morning (Friday 9 December) a member of the public alerted police to a body in the Oxford Canal near to bridge 50 at Newbold near Rugby.

A stretch of the canal was closed and the body of a man was recovered by a specialist water search and recovery team.

The identity of the deceased will not be released by the police until next of kin have been informed and formal identification procedures have been completed.

Police are treating the man’s death as unexplained at this time and are trying to establish his last known movements.

If anyone has any sightings of a male, aged in his 60's, who was dressed in jacket and trousers, near to the Oxford Canal in the Newbold area since Thursday morning they are asked to contact the Force Duty Inspector on 01926 415000 quoting incident 110 Friday 9 December.
