Opportunist Burglars Steal Handbags, Leamington and Nuneaton.

Inc 121 & 185 Thursday 26 January

Warwickshire Police are reminding householders to be security conscious when they are in their homes following opportunist burglaries.

In the first incident in St George's Road, Leamington a burglar took advantage of an unlocked door, to sneak in and steal a handbag containing bank cards, plus a number of other items from the house.

The theft is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Thursday 26 January.

In a separate incident in Bath Road, Nuneaton a burglar stole a handbag from the kitchen table after entering through an unlocked door sometime between 9am – 9.30am on Thursday morning.

There is no indication that the incidents are linked. However police remind householders that they should always make sure their doors are locked and windows secured even when they are in the house.

A spokesperson said, “If you move from one downstairs room to another, or you go upstairs for a couple of minutes, you need to make sure you have not left either the front or back door unlocked, and that the patio door or French Window is also securely locked. You should also close downstairs windows, even if they are too small for someone to climb through. A burglar can reach through and open a larger window allowing them access to your home.”
