Police appeal for witnesses to canal towpath robbery, Leamington Spa
Incident 261 of 2 April
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 60’s was robbed as he walked along a stretch of canal between Rushmore Street and Clapham Terrace in Leamington Spa at around 6pm on Monday 2 April.
The man was walking home along the canal towpath and noticed two males on the opposite side of the canal. He did not pay much attention to these males and carried on walking. He then realised these two males had crossed over the canal towpath and were behind him. One of the males grabbed hold of his arm while the other stole his wallet from his back pocket.
The thieves walked off in the direction of Clements Street. The man followed them for a short while before losing sight of them.
Officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident and also information from the public who may have seen the two males walking along the canal and can help identify them.
Officers are also asking the public to please contact them if they find a discarded wallet in the area. The wallet contained £10 and a few pieces of paper.
If you can help, please contact Leamington Spa Local Investigation Team on 01926 415000 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
