Aston Cantlow Body In Car Update
Inc 51 Wednesday 25 January
Police investigating the discovery of a body inside a burning car at Aston Cantlow near Alcester early on Wednesday 25 January, have now established it is the body of a male.
Although formal identification processes will take some time, due to the intense heat experienced within the car, they also believe they know who the male is. He was not a local person, and did not live in Warwickshire. Police are liasing with the family of the person they believe is the victim.
A post mortem examination conducted on Thursday 26 January failed to establish the cause of death and further analysis is taking place, however although the death is still being treated as unexplained, it is not being treated as suspicious. Police do not believe anyone else was with the vehicle at the time the car set on fire.
Detective Inspector Liam Barry, from the investigation team said, “We still need to establish what time the Peugeot 306 drove on to the field beside Brearley Road on Wednesday morning.
“We are beginning to build up a picture of the movements of the person who we believe died in the car, but there are still some unknowns leading up to when the car was reported to be on fire in the field.
“We are still appealing for anyone who saw the red Peugeot 306 in Aston Cantlow early on Wednesday 25 January, or anyone who heard anything that could have been the car being driven on to the field.”
Police were alerted to the man’s death by the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service who were called to attend the car fire at shortly after 7am on 25 January. They contacted police when they realised there was a body inside the vehicle.
