Three arrested following Rugby burglary

Incident 15 of 3 April 2012

Officers have arrested three males aged 29, 34 and 35 years old from Rugby on suspicion of a burglary that occurred at 3am this morning 3 April 2012 in Lansdowne Place, Rugby.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the burglary that occurred when thieves entered the home through the front door and stole a handbag, mobile phones and two laptops as well as the keys to a silver Peugeot 106 that they also stole from outside.

The car has a faulty clutch and at 3am in the morning, the thieves are believed to have screeched the engine and stalled several times as they tried to change gear during their getaway.

The vehicle was later found in Butlin Road, Rugby and officers are keen to hear from anyone who saw or heard the car being driven erratically from Lansdowne Place, along Clifton Road to Butlin Road where it was abandoned.

Rugby’s CCTV operators greatly assisted officers in progressing their enquiries in the hours after the burglary occurred.

Following initial enquiries, the three males were arrested at approximately 5.30am this morning and are currently in police custody where they are being questioned.

Officers later recovered some of the stolen property from behind the Jolly Brewer public house in Clifton Road, and from Whinfield Park opposite.

Officers are checking CCTV and carrying out house to house enquiries as they continue to appeal for any witnesses. Police are also asking the public to contact them if they find any valuables that may have been hidden in their garden or elsewhere such as around bins between Lansdowne Place and Butlin Road.
