Incident 131 of 27 January

Twenty-six year old James Michael Robert Harvey and 29 year old Dean Brooks from Leamington both pleaded guilty to burglary and were sentenced to 30 months each in prison when they appeared at Warwick Crown Court on Monday 8 February.

The two men were arrested on the afternoon of 27 January after an alert member of the public noticed them acting suspiciously in Quarry Street, Leamington Spa and had called the police.

As a direct result of this information, officers made their way to the street and following a search involving police officers from a number of teams, the men were arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken to Leamington Police Station.

Officers recovered property stolen during the burglary after searching Brooks and Harvey. Other property was recovered near to the premises.

Harvey and Brooks were later charged with burglary and after appearing at Magistrates court on 29 January were remanded into custody until their appearance yesterday 8 February at Warwick Crown Court.

DC 215 James Coleman of the Offender Management Unit said “Both Harvey and Brooks pleaded guilty at their first opportunity.

“At the time of this burglary, they were both already serving a sentence for burglary and were on licence in the community at the time. They breached the terms of the licence as well as commiting this offence and we are pleased that they are now back in prison. Brooks and Harvey have proven themselves to be prolific burglars and as such we will continue to monitor them when they are released from prison.

“Our work is not over yet though as a number of watches are still missing that are of great sentimental value to their owner. We are asking the public to please help us locate them so they can be returned.

Ladies DNKY watch.

These watches may have been discarded somewhere in the Milverton area.

“If you come across them please hand them in to the Police for the attention of DC 215 James Coleman so that we can re-unite them with the owner.”

Warwick District Commander Neil Harrison said "This is an excellent example of a vigilant member of the public seeing and reporting suspicious activity resulting in the arrest, charge and remand of 2 suspects. Officers and Special Constables from Safer Neighbourhood Police Officers and Community Support Officers, Response and Specialist Investigation teams and a Dog Handler responded promptly and to good effect resulting in 2 suspects being remanded in custody awaiting a court hearing.

“I hope this reassures our community that Warwickshire Police will act when we receive reports of suspected criminal activity. My message to anyone who wishes to cause the wider community harm is that we will catch you and put you before the court."
