Car stolen at knifepoint, Whitacre Heath, Coleshill
02 June 2008 12:18
Incident 532, May 31
A woman was threatened at knifepoint by an offender who stole her car in Birmingham Road, Whitacre Heath on Saturday evening, May 31.
At about 18.00hrs the 42 year old woman was driving a blue VW Golf along Birmingham Road when she became aware of a silver vehicle travelling very close behind.
She pulled over to allow the vehicle to overtake and as it did it clipped the wing mirror of the Golf.
The woman stopped to examine the damage and was approached by a male brandishing a knife and demanding her car keys.
She threw the keys and tried to retrieve her handbag from the passenger seat but the offender got into the car and made off towards Lea Marston, believed to be in convoy with the silver vehicle.
The woman, who was badly shaken by the incident but not physically injured, flagged down a passing bus and the driver helped to get her home.
Police investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses to come forward and would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw the silver car as it approached the Golf or has any information about the offenders or the whereabouts of the stolen car.
Drivers are reminded to be vigilant when they have to pull over for any reason and to be aware of who and what is around them.
A police spokesman said: "There are occasions when it is necessary for drivers to stop, if there has been a collision for example. We do not want to unduly alarm people but it is important that they pay attention to their personal safety and do not step unwittingly into situations which could be dangerous for them."
